Cant launch Dynamo player/Dynamo for Revit 2021 suddenly

Hello,

I am trying to launch Dynamo for Revit in 2021 which stopped working today suddenly.

(@jacob.small apologies for the tag… You seem to be able to figure out what’s wrong very quickly, and my issue is time sensitive unfortunately…)

Below also my Log, it appears there are some issues with packages, so i deleted the entire folder but nothing changes. Ive updated Revit, cleared the settings but its not working, and new logs contain no text data at all.

Sadly this appears to be the analytics break which I am not sure how to fix, but it is impacting quite a few people of late. Best path forward: submit a support ticket for the Revit team so they can get you i. Touch with the right people and see if the larger collection of user issues can lead to a hotfix or repair tool. Do so via the accounts portal at manage.Autodesk.com.

Thank you Jacob, will do…

Would it be worthwhile to try and reinstall Revit?

Unlikely, as analytics is system wide. I’d tell you to try modifying settings manually outside of the application(s), but fear that might lock you out of more software, and I have client deadlines today so I can’t test for myself first. A different CPU might be the best bet in the near term; don’t transfer any user settings.

Just heard back from a developer - go to %appdata%/Analytics/ and delete or rename the file csharpanalytics-measurementqueue and csharpanalytics-measurementsession to something else and see if that fixes it.

Hi Jacob,

I renamed the files in the appdata/roaming/analytics folder, unfortunately nothing changed…

We use server profiles in our office, does this mean the affected user should not log into his server profile on a different computer?

I’m having the same issue for about 50 users. Hit everyone at the same time (today)

It hit my affected user as well today, 4 hours ago…

This seems like an incredibly urgent issue for Autodesk…

can you please show a screenshot of the stacktrace you get for your users.

Hi @MVE1112 so if this is the issue we think it is then it’s caused by a bug in Dynamo’s analytics code.

It happens when Dynamo engine is started, shutdown, and restarted in the same session of Revit - while analytics is enabled.

Player,GD, or other addins might start and shutdown Dynamo causing this issue - for example, Nonica, Dyno etc.

so some steps to try:

  1. Remove all addins that create and interact with Dynamo (Nonica, Dyno etc)
  2. try disabling analytics both GA and ADP - try disabling analytics from the dynamoSettings.xml file.
  3. try disabling ADP from Revit or from the ADP global config - set optin to 0 - this is in %appData% (AppData\Roaming\Autodesk\ADPSDK)

some questions:
A. when you see this issue, does it happen only after restarting Dynamo in a Revit session, or as soon as you launch a clean Revit?
B. Did you install anything recently?
C. Do you see other stack traces when starting Dynamo - one saying Null Reference IsOptedIN - this is another known analytics issue that should be addressed soon, but may be causing confusion for those in this thread as it also stops Dynamo from launching.

Hi Michael,

I will try these suggestions tomorrow.
Meanwhile, i also got a response from Autodesk, which suggested the same things:

Thank you very much for sharing the log and the screenshot of the message. As the first steps, please check the following:

  1. Disable add-ins for Revit.
  2. Move the installed packages from C:\Users%username%\AppData\Roaming\Dynamo\Dynamo Revit<version>\packages to a different folder.

Please check if any of the actions helped you to resolve the issue. In the meantime, I will reach out to our development team for further investigation of the issue. Thank you very much for your efforts and patience.

Autodesk is looking into this issue, when something works or Autodesk suggests anything else ill get back to you tomorrow.

Both started today.

@janaya thanks - can you confirm what version of the ADP binaries in this folder
%appData%\Roaming\Autodesk\ADPSDK\bin - properties-> details on ADPSDKCore.dll

@janaya please see: If you cannot launch Dynamo in Revit 2021 with NullReference IsOptedIn error

Similar, my dynamo doesn’t works

I think we have found a solution, at least temporarily.
It seems that you can just delete the Bin folder.

C:\AppData\Roaming\Autodesk\ADPSDK\bin

Revit recreates this folder upon startup, and it was exactly reproduced upon starting Dynamo.

After deleting it, Dynamo works again in version 2021.

We tested this on a bunch of PC’s - It seems that nothing is affected by this method.

Hi @jacob.small

One of my users is unable to launch Dynamo now in any version of Revit. The error seems unrelated to the Analytics issue, however i didnt want to open a new thread for it.

Do you have an idea what could cause the following error:

This one is quite a bit different. Best to rule out an add-in conflict by disabling everything bolted onto Revit, and renaming all Dynamo package folders. From there see if the issue persists. If a Dynamo log is generated posting that would be good to.
