Synthesize and Orchid behave strange after moved to DropBox

Hi,
SynthesizeToolkit and Orchid have been super unstable since I moved all the packages to DropBox. We wanted to have everything in the central location in order to make sure everybody within the office uses the same version of packages - instead of installing and updating every package manually on each computer… It works fine for most of packages, but Synthesize and Orchid are doing some strange things - like updating or deleting their files every morning (even without starting Dynamo). So everyday I have to install them again and swap out the nodes in my scripts…

Any idea what’s going on?

Sounds like an information security control. You are currently executing arbitrary code (as windows sees it) from the internet (what Dropbox is), which is generally a bad idea.

Executing packages stored on a remote location is never a good idea for that reason and many more (stability, search times, execution speed, and more).

Instead I recommend you partner with your IT team to set up a tool that puts all the packages on all user’s systems directly rather than running via Dropbox. This can be done in a multitude of ways, but only they know your network configuration so they’re best set up to do so. I’ve seen scripts written in under half an hour, so the time for them to do so shouldn’t be too bad.
