As the title says, I’m currently trying to calculate the volume related to TINSurface.
Specifically, I’m trying to use the Node “Solid.ByJoinedSurface” to find the volume of the area that enclosed by terrain data of TINSurface, the back of a check dam, and the deposited soil surface. The input facesOfSolid consists of those three. In other words, one of the challenges in my project is predicting how much soil a check dam virtually placed in a small valley can hold.
But normally I should be able to calculate the volume enclosed by a closed surface without any issues, yet the moment the terrain surface(TIN) is involved, an error occurs and I can’t perform the calculation. And the problem last even so I convert TIN to (Poly)Surface.
This type of issue is common in the soil mechanics engineering field I think and believe there’s definitely a solution with using Dynamo. Please, everyone at Auto
this node needs a watertight collection of surfaces.
You might need to rebuilt geometry in Dynamo e.g creating new surfaces or meshes/solids from points. Sometimes testing these things with a simpler test model helps.
Suggest posting a sample data file as well as the Dynamo graph.
Volume is easy enough to calculate as long as you have a valid mesh. Used a fair bit of Python to ensure I had that in this workflow, all of which was authored by Autodesk Assistant in Dynamo 4.2.2. Graph should run in any Dynamo version which has the improved mesh tools, but those should be accessible to pretty much everyone by now (and MeshToolkit will work for those who are lagging behind).
