Hi all,
Here in the image you can see the roof and the generic model (model in place), which I made. Is there any way to create that generic model just by Dynamo with any roof shape, and that should show volume as well?
Thank you
Hi Saurabh, welcome ![]()
Take the time to review the forum FAQ when you have time
I would search up the use of Direct Shapes for creating generic models in Dynamo to Revit
I want to attach files but i can’t. (Sorry, new users can not upload attachments.)
Thank you
Bumped your trust level so you should be able to attach most necessary files. If it doesn’t work still you can use a 3rd party service such as dropbox, google drive, box, onedrive, etc..
What is the first warning?
Warning: One or more geometries have failed to convert due to this error: Value cannot be null.
Ok - what is the goal?
Hi @saurabh.p.prajapati . Is the volume you’re looking for something different from the volume shown here?
Hi, here is an attempt trying to create a solid from single roof element. Although I can only read the volume inside Dynamo. I can’t write it to the direct shape Generic Model Instance. Plus if your “roof” is actually a collection of roofs then this won’t work.

EDIT: If you try a different method of getting the Dynamo geometry inside Revit then maybe it will read the volume inside Revit that way. Create a Family Type then place a Family instance.
Thank you @Simon_WBCIE ,
I changed the first node in plural (Elements), but I’m still not getting it. I am adding a dormer into that as well. because we are adding that as well.
Thank you again @Simon_WBCIE
You can’t simply change the first node to a “select model elements” node. that won’t work.
Try copy the enitre script. an select each roof indepentantly. then at the end of both streams boolean union the two solids.
EDIT: A “roof” made of multiple roof elements would require a different logic. My script can create a solid from a roof where all boundary edges define the roof slope. you would need a different logic to make solids from monopitch roofs. but then at the end you could boolean union these two different solids.
Thank you @yaseminV2XL5
I have tried List.Flatten node, but still I am not getting the shape or solid geometry. I tried union as well.
Thank you again @yaseminV2XL5
I tried that too, and yes, the roof is made from different elements. Because the dormer contains walls, and that contains roof cuts as well, different roof angles as well.
Thank you

I have added a second stream that is a bit rough and ready and NOT correct shape for a dormer. But just to illustrate the concept you will need for the final script. This is not a final correct answer but it should help you get there.
EDIT: Image
I’m still a bit lost - the goal is to get the enclosed volume at the roof level in the two options? Is this for “conditioned space” or do you want to included the assembly as well?
