Not sure if you have seen these or not but its a good place to start. These are posts I have started in the past with similar topics. I think the first one should be close to what you want. The solution allows you to select all instances of a particular type.

I am missing something really simple here but for the life of me I cannot figure it out. I am trying to select all Text Instances of a Particular type. I know I can run All elements of type with TextNote rather than TextNoteType or all Elements of Category but that takes a long time to collect all the text notes. I only need the text notes of one of the text note types.

Do any of you have or know of a better way to count how many instances there are of all the project families? I am trying to figure out what our most used families are. I can get all of the placed elements but this takes forever and is not really needed. If you look at the graph below All Elements of Type and Family types of family take less than a second to cull there data but All elements of Family Type took about 10 minutes.
