Automated tags with leader on face of pipe or duct not center

I was wondering if there was a way to have a script that automates tags and puts leader on the face of the pipes or ducts instead of the center, doing it manually by changing the leader position when free end is selected can be quite time consuming. can someone help?

thank you for your reply this was very helpful, However, I was looking for a way to keep the leader, and the leader would point to the face of the pipe/duct. thank you!
