Structural Framing by Polyline

Hello All,

How can I create a Beam (Structural Framing) from a Polyline in Revit. I know Revit only has a category of Lines, and not polylines like AutoCAD. But I need a beam to be modelled out of joined straight lines without having any curves.

It kind of should look like a Sweep through a single sketch path without curves.

Sorry, since I am a new user I can only attach one image and cannot attach the Dynamo Graph here. But You can find it in the link below.

Dynamo Graph and PNG

Hope you can help me out here.

Thanks in advance.

Hi @BalajiBIM,

Are you trying to create a Structural Frame via In-place Model?

No, I have a loadable rfa family with me. For this example let us say I want to keep the profile as rectangular concrete beam.

Hi @BalajiBIM,

You mean something like this:

The encircled node contains all the lines in revit.

Yes. Exactly!

I have two further questions though.

  1. I tried this this script and worked. But is there a way to make the lines created automatically from given points?
  2. For some reason, if I want this to be crated as a single beam rather than 3 separate pieces, is that possible?

Hi @BalajiBIM,

  1. Yes it is possible to create the lines through points.
  2. As far as I know, that is not possible if the polyline/lines have sharp angles.

Thanks again for the clarity.
