Select an item from a linked model similar to Tabbing to select

I’d like to use the tab key to select one linked object then extract some parameter values from it. Could you give me any pointiers? Is that possible?

I’m looking for something similar to the Select Model Element tool but for it to allow me to tab and select (1) linked object.

The Springs package has nodes for selecting linked elements. I believe Data-Shapes has an option for this as well.
