This latest blog post, “Extend pile length to topo, almost…” by Jostein Olsen, which shows a great use for computational BIM—extending a pile family to meet a topographical surface. The problem that Jostein ran into, however, was that Dynamo doesn’t have a full implementation of a mesh library yet, and topography in Revit is modeled as a mesh. In the post, Jostein showed how he was able to find a workaround for this problem in some circumstances (when the number of mesh faces is low and the faces are described by closed polycurves), but as he pointed out, this is not easy, and it doesn’t always work.
The good news is we’re working on it! We have definitely identified the need for a proper mesh library as a development target. But who knows, maybe a user will beat us to it…
