Creating structural model from archictectural model

Hi!

We’re trying to rebuild an architectural model, so that we’re only left with the structural model which can then be used for further calculations in FEM-design.

The general idea is to look at the material layers of each architectural element, and filter out the materials not specified as a structural member.

From those sub-elements of the wall (the structural elements) we want to rebuild the analytical model. So far we have a means of filtering out the structural materials and keep them grouped by its corresponding wall, but from here we’re stuck and was hoping to get assistance from you guys. How do we remove parts of an element, not specified as a structural material? Generally how do we delete objects from the Revit model (or parts of them)?

Thank you

This can be found easily in the forum

Not sure if it’s possible to delete layers from a wall type or not. Haven’t been able to get the DeleteSubelements method to work. You might be better off creating new wall types using just the structural layer info you have.

Indeed

Even if you could, I wouldn’t modify the existing structure of the wall, opting instead to create new in the same location with the correct structural material. This is because you would have a lot of extra baggage (other hosted elements, bad edit histories, etc) to deal with if you kept the existing, and you certainly don’t want that baloney clogging up the analysis model.
