Recategorizing a directory of families

Hi all-

I have a large collection of files from a manufacturer that are all categorized as Generic Models, but for internal filtering they need to be categorized as Specialty Equipment and then saved. I’ve read other posts about this same desire, but they haven’t seemed to post a solution. I have this workspace set up right now, but I’m told I’m “attempting to edit a model outside of a transaction,” even though I have transaction nodes.

(FamilyDocument.ByDocument is the overlapping node between the 2 pictures)

Get Family Category from Rfa

Hi All, This was a request on Twitter, I’ve had a play and I can’t get it to work with @erfajo and @john_pierson 's awesome nodes and there doesn’t seem to be any access to the family category from a document in the Revit API…? Change Category of Family

I am trying to change the categories of some families in my project. I’ve tried to use Element.SetParameterByName but I can’t get this to work. [image] Is it even possible to change the category by using Dynamo?

I think the OOTB family document nodes are made to work on the current document only. So the transaction nodes won’t make a difference.

I would probably make the graph work on a current family file, then use something like bird tools Dynamo multiplayer to batch it.

Bird Tools Multiplayer v0.5 currently is only supported up to Revit 2022, and a lot of our families are now in Revit 2023.

Are there any workarounds for this disconnect?
