Read Data from a link, not placed in the Project

Dear All.
I need you help: i would like to know if is possible to read data from a link without having to place the instance in the project. in order to be more clear the bakery node need to have at least one link instance placed on the project. My dream, is to be able to read data from another file without beeing forced to place it in the project… is that possible?

What type of link and what type of data?

Sorry it wasn’t clear… in a Revit Link i would like to read the parameter associated to the material library under the identity tab
