How to create a family along 3D-line

Hi there,

in the last few days i read alot about how to place families in revit by using dynamo.
I was already able to create my topo and to put point-based families on it, they automatically get the correct z-value from the points. But i keep on failing to snap my fence on the topo/modelline. I Found the node familyinstance.ByLine and familyinstance.ByCurve, but both need a “level” and dont follow the Z-value.

I also saw people creating floorsslabs and snap them to the topo so they can fix walls and railings on it, like the railing on my picture.
I saw that its possible to make a fence or other families follow a 3D-line but i couldnt figure out how its been done.
Can someone give me a hint, or link where its done that way?
Thanks alot already!

jonas!

Have you tried using the level based nodes? As far as I’m aware the level is just for reference and the families will use an offset to match the input curves or points.

EDIT: Looks like this might not be the case.

In Revit 2018, railings can follow topographies. Also, have a look at this blog: https://landarchbim.com/ for inspiration
I have also written some blogposts on how you can use topographies as base for a wide variety of stuff here: http://jbdynamo.blogspot.no/
Check them out and give it a go, then come back here if you’re stuck!
