Difference between Parameters from an Element and an ElementType

Please tell me the difference between these two??

Hola Amigo @t361666QRPEF buenas. one gives you the type of the element, and the oter the parameters of the element, be aware don’t confuse you with family and type parametes. chek the dictionary if you need it, good luck!!

Hi @t361666QRPEF

If you see closely, it works similar to the Revit’s hierarchy.

  1. When you got all elements of Category you got 728 ducts, these ducts are the ones already placed or modeled in the model existing as instances and you are looking at the parameters that are instance specific like each duct of those could have a different Comment , Mark , Length and many other parameters.

  2. But here on the other hand when you used Element.ElementType there you asked each duct there duct type and you could see again 728 entities in the list but if you observe carefully element IDs are repeating so if u understand this it means the single type element could have multiple instances so here when you asking parameters from them you are getting the parameters like Type Comments , Type Mark which are Type specific.

In other words:-

Instance Parameter – Enables you to modify the parameter value separately for every instance.

Type Parameter – Enables you to modify the parameter value, which applies to all elements of the family type.

I hope explanation clarifies it for you.

BM
