Change view reference by this method is it possible

get view from sheet>and select callout in plan by element selection for me its not working

What does the error say?

this is the error

It doesnā€™t like the callout you have selected for some reason. Can you try manually changing the callout reference for the selected callout in Revit to see if anything gives you a warning there?

Thanks for your reply, I want to create functionality such that if I select a sheet in the Project Browser and then a view reference tag, it should extract the view from the sheet and apply the target view to the view reference tag. This is what I am trying to achieve. If possible, please help me with this

Are you selecting a callout or a view reference tag. The node is changing the reference view of the callout so you need to provide a callout element. The tag would update automatically.

i am unable to understand, what is read only

It means you can only read the value, not write new values to it. You cannot change the view reference in sheet viewport labels. This is set by Revit.

Yes it gets it wrong a lot of the time. It is an old feature that has been requested to support an override for over 10 years now.

You can ā€œtrickā€ this sometimes by hiding the referencing element in the view and it will then jump to another one. Iā€™ve done this before but it can be tedious. I suppose you could try to collect all viewers then turn them off everywhere but the view you want and maybe it would get you there.

Iā€™d agree, Iā€™d call it more of a ā€˜hackā€™, but it has proven useful in the past. More of something you use here and there but not a definitive ā€œsolutionā€ by any means.

this does work and as said it can be very tedious, just be careful hiding/ turning them off because if there are no more views to reference then revit will move that reference to a level instead of a view and then youā€™re really stuck.

So i was perusing revit roadmap and found thisā€¦

https://portal.productboard.com/fgzms7e5w5rfaulmsvksa6pw/c/849-shared-parameters-for-section-elevation-mark-callout-head-and-view-reference-labels

To me that looks like in (2026?) we will potentially be able to override callout properties by view or.marker.

Obviously doesnt help anyone stuck in old builds as per usualā€¦ but a light at the end of a long tunnel.
