Can i have a gateway in Dynamo to extract only data that has certain properties, in other words filter out just what i need?

Sounds like a db query. My (limited) understanding is you could send a call and get a response, where the heavy lifting happens at the db level itself for most modern db’s.
Might be worth look into Rest API logic and apps like Workato which are going down this road and offering dynamo-esque interfaces.
