Stud family alignment issue with wall

As per the snip, the green stud is properly aligned with the wall, but the red studs are not perpendicular to the wall. The second issue is that the blue stud is fixed at the center of the point instead of the wall corner, with some part extending beyond the corner. Additionally, the blue stud needs to be flipped at its location towards the green stud. Please advise.

I see no Dynamo here… My advice is to move to a Revit forum or provide some insight into what you’re attempting with Dynamo for the creation of these studs.

I guess you the need direction of the Wall and then rotate your Family accordingly.

For the flipping. You can make it so the first (or last) Element in the list is always Flipped.

Also see this maybe  ?

Stud family not aligned with wall.

In the past when I have looked at these kind of workflows I always remind myself:

“Use the power of Revit in conjuction with Dynamo”

Wall hosted families auto-orient to their host, so just make a stud family that is wall hosted (in my sample below I started with a door family template), then place that with FamilyInstance.ByHostAndPoint.

This is far easier than calculating all sorts of orientations within Dynamo itself. Even if you didn’t want them to be hosted you could place a “sacrificial” hosted family first, extract it’s orientation, then place your unhosted family.

Of course the sample below is not complete (end conditions need sorted out, etc), but it should give you an idea.

Or if you want to get really crazy… just use a curtain wall with some custom mullions.

Of course this would require cleanup as well, but still pretty fun.

I have had bad experience with the Curtain Wall workflow / -round.
I have had soem model getting pretty slow because of this.

Note; this were models from third parties.

Also to add. Don’t know what OPs job is, but imho architects shoulnd’t be
the ones modeling stud (for drywayss i.e.) but subcontractors
(and maybe OP works for a subcontractor :upside_down_face:).

And this is exactly why I said this:

I used to use curtain wall all the time for the first pass, then “explode” it into individual components with Dynamo. I did this all the time for stadium seating.

Missed that :see_no_evil:. Friday brain :brain:.
Maybe i should stop posting on fridays .

Thank you for the solution! However, I have also placed a door and need a king stud around it. If I take the door base stud, it will extra king stud at every door base family stud.

Still waiting for a good solution. Please advise.

I don’t wanna try to be a ****, but in 17 days you could have tried something
yourself and then come back here with any questions / problems you ran into
while trying something yourself.

if you share a sample rvt with that studs…i guees you will be more lucky

Hi @ VijayS thanks…but have you tried some of these suggestions as already mention ? if so show us where it goes wrong in your graph…anyway i would go with a wall face direction solution…and rotate

I have tried this solution but created extra king studs case I have used door base stud family so that created double.
