I have a family which has no. of holes (Shared Nested Family). My goal is to place the bolts automatically using the hole’s coordinates using familyinstance.byface node. But the select face node is returning with an error
please guide me to solve this issue
Is geometry scaling set to medium?
how do i set it up?
Most modern builds has it in the preferences menu.
Ok - you’ll have to share a RVT then for anyone to help as this is a specific geometry issue. Open the model detached, delete all views but one 3D view, all sheets, all materials, and all elements except for those containing the failing geometry. Purge unused a few times, and post the file here (or to another file sharing service if you don’t have access) and then the community can help.
I imagine an alternative workflow of getting the nested families location and orientation and then using that to place unhosted families could also work. Or put a small face in a non-displayed category in the center of the hole (would be the only geometry in the otherwise all void object) and host to that.
I am trying to place the bolts automatically based on the location of holes.
the bolt family was modelled with Z-axis (refer bolt image front view)
the bolts are placed perfectly good if the hole is in z-direction, but the bolts are not getting placed properly if the holes are in x or y direction ( i have attached the dynamo script)
@Kashyapras I moved your new topic into this one as it’s a clear continuation. Please refrain from starting new topics when you already have one underway.
The imagery helps to understand your issue.
I would proceed as I recommended before - you can generate new family instances in the same location and with the same orientation as the nested families. The best way to do this will depend entirely on how your families are set up. This means we need the bolt family to identify the issue. My gut tells me you’ve got “always vertical” turned on, or haven’t set the work plane.
