Revit Mass to Generic family

so im trying to get a revit mass geometry in to revit and them use FamilyInstance.ByGometry to create a generic family (at least i tough it will be that easy). the reason to do this is the flexibility that gives the mass environment vs the in place environment

im getting a some weird results:

And when im importing some of my curve geometry i get other shapes like in the following example, image on the right was the selected mass

On your first issue, try closing any additional windows in Revit (properties dialog, etc.) and deselecting everything.

On your second issue, this is a known limitation of nested families using revolved surfaces:
