Projecting Points onto a 3D Alignment Profile in Civil 3D 2025

Hello Dynamo and Civil 3D Community,

I’m currently working with Civil 3D 2025 and Dynamo 3.2 and I need some help finding the exact projection points on a 3D alignment profile.

Project Details:
I have a 3D alignment profile (e.g., a road or railway alignment) with varying elevations along the path, and I also have a list of XYZ points that are located near this profile. My goal is to project each of these points onto the 3D profile to extract the XYZ coordinates of the projected points directly on the alignment.

What I Need to Achieve:

  • Project each point onto the 3D alignment profile.
  • Get the XYZ coordinates of the new points that lie directly on the 3D profile.
  • Use these coordinates for further analysis or modeling within Civil 3D.

Hi @zachri.jensen, thanks for sharing the nodes! Should my list of points be on the same plane as the given profile? My points are quite far from the profile, which might be causing issues.

Also, how can I work with Dynamo when my project is georeferenced? Dynamo seems to struggle with handling points on a large scale.
