Numbering sublists sequentially

there is another thread on here that numbers all items within a group(sublist) with the same number, so group A elements get number 1, group B elements get number 2 etc, but how can this be modified to give each element a unique number within the group starting with 1 for each group.

Yes, that is exactly what i am looking for, now to figure out how to apply this to the previous example that I mentioned. I will give it my best!

I was able to get this working with a little persistence! Thanks Vikram for the assistance
