Formwork Modelling- Using Dynamo

Hi all, I am exploring on creating the formwork for my Model using Dynamo. I want to create the temporary structures around it, extract the areas and the temporary formwork structures of each category to come under that specific category while extracting quantity. Is there any way to achieve that…

Hi @vinduja.vijayan , Welcome to the forum. Could you please share what you have done so far and the specific problem you’re facing? We’ll be happy to help — just give us a bit more detail so we can understand your issue better.

I have created a dynamo script that now gives the formwork model and area of that respective formwork. I want to know if we can give the formwork the host element category to it

Yes. However for anyone to tell you how you can do this they’d have to know how you built your current graph.

I have built the script by selecting all the element and given them direct shape and extracted the FW Area from it. After this how can i assign the host element category to it, does anyone know….

Read the geometry in dynamo vs direct shaping. You can get solid faces/area there and sum/set it back to an instance based project parameter of the element if you keep the data aligned with the elements.

Without seeing the script we cant help anymore specifically. Asking if anyone knows how to solve it each time whilst ignoring this request is generally not going to yield specific advice.

Hi i not really sure will you just set the direct shape categori as the same or write it to a parameter ?

This is the script i had worked up until now, it collects all the elements give them direct shape and gives area, i am trying to assign the category name but it is not working

Hi Sir, I tried this also but its not assigning to the parameter i created

in your image your direct shape needs names

Thankyou so much sir, its working and giving me the category name but will this correctly get in the quantity, while extracting the formwork quantity

not sure do you mean in a schedule…if so yes

Yes, i meant schedule, ok sir thank you

Good Afternoon Sir, I am facing an issue while assigning the category name in my Dynamo script.
The wall elements in the model are 45 numbers, whereas the generated DirectShape elements are 182 numbers. Currently, the category name is being assigned only to the 45 wall elements, and the remaining DirectShape elements are not receiving the category name. I have attached my Dynamo script for your reference.
Kindly help me understand why the category assignment is not applied to all DirectShape elements and advise on the required correction.

Hi @vinduja.vijayan try do exacly what i showed in post # 6, and build up from there and with list level, lacing etc…could you show the full graph ?

As a new joined member i have restriction on uploading file and more than 1 image, sir

In that script the rectangular column are getting the same area for all 4 sides Sir.

yeah its about sort the right way i guess, but really hard to know…you can upload with wetransfer, google etc, and share the link here

can you share your mail id sir.
