How to edit the work plane of a family from excel strings?
Workflow.
Export x,y,z to excel
Use x,y,z from excel te place another family.
Problem with placing the families are all on the first level. That’s because the family is face based. If I use a generic family. The placing x,y,z is wel correct.
So for the next step I want to change the z with the level of the work plane.
This a old topic from 2016.

Imagine this situation (just an example): Air terminals initially placed as level based elements in the MEP file, ARC file then pops up with different ceilings with different heights. At this point I would obviously like to align the elements to the ceiling. The easiest way without changing elements is editing the air terminal family and set it to workplane-based.

Did you try a workflow like this?

This recent discussion may also be of interest here:
You can host this face based family on a level or a plane. but the only way to control the elevation is by the built-in “Default Elevation” type property:

For a more fine-grained approach, you’ll have to rework the family and set up an offset parameter and then modify your script with the new parameter in mind. Alternatively, you could use a different family template for your lights - face based families can sometimes be more of a hassle than they’re worth.
