Based on experience at my own firm you will be better off adding this as data to the object as revit stores material data differently for some objects such as floors vs columns. This can be done via a code which you could intersect with a table of rates using Dynamo or similar to perform QTO of carbon.
If you are new to Dynamo I suggest reading dynamo primer which covers all the techniques you would need to achieve this.
