Medial Axis / Skeleton of Bridge Girder Cross Section

Hello everyone,

I am quite sure you hear that a lot, but I am new to Dynamo and this is my first post.

However, I think I have a interesting question for you.

What I am trying to do:

I have the cross section of a bridge girder (as a surface) in Dynamo and what I want is to get the “centre path” or " Skeleton" of this cross section. I am attaching you a photo so you can fully understand what I am trying to say.

I want this “skeleton” to be updated every time I change the cross section of the bridge girder in Revit.

Do you think I can achieve something like that in Dynamo?

I have already tried to use the Voronoi Node (I read about that in an older post) but it did not work.

I am open to new ideas and suggestions guys.

Thanks a lot for your time,
Spyros :slightly_smiling_face:

How static will your profile be? By that I mean: will you be adding points or curves?

If the answer is ‘quite’, I think you could take the profile edges and use some offsets & point indexing to get the shape you are after. Anything driven by Dynamo will need to be updated by Dynamo when you update the shape.

Alternatively you could host adaptive components to the section, which would auto update but may slow doesn’t be model. No need for Dynamo in that case.
