Linked walls as elements in active view in dynamo

Structural layers aren’t readily pullable, so you’ll have to do some geometry work to identify the offset from the outside face of the solid to the structural layer, thicken the surface by that distance, and remove that from the solid. This is a non trivial amount of compute and will be quite difficult for you to code up, and will not align should the linked model update so you’ll have to revise it often in each view. All of that means you’ll want to be absolutely sure you want to progress this way - I certainly wouldn’t. Modifying the linked model by making parts and overriding the parts in your view by filter would be a better choice IMO.

thank you i figured thats the only solution ! hopefully it would be doable in the future easily !

I wouldn’t expect it to be.

This isn’t something which adds much value to the BIM processes, and management of the linked dataset (i.e. making parts, using separate models for the wall components, etc.) resolves the issue when this is required.

maybe and if i understand we can get these layer width and location without parting and maybe use a polycurve thickness…but not sure that you are after at all…hahahaha…probably far out

but layer location works better in plan view not section view? and doesnt work on slabs?

Gotcha! btw why the script doesnt work when i m fetching for linked rooms in the active view? even tho two rooms are visible!

Hard to say without my own dataset to play with.

Generally rooms and other objects of the SpatialElements class (Areas, Zones, Spaces, etc.) are an odd elements in that their geometry is derived from the elements which bound them. As such you might not get expected results for geometry based operations such as “visible in view”. In this case it may be that they need to have the room’s origin point visible as one example (which may or may not be happening - try a plan view and see if you that gets results).

i think i got it to work i actually got about 6 rooms while 2 rooms are 80% visible in the view and the 4 other rooms have only a tiny crack of them visible , so i made a intersect operation to extract the largest surface intersection area with the active view cropzone surface and extract my two rooms! it worked! thanks sir!

Hi so i had some free time i managed to do the geometry work and managed to create fill patterns over the structural layers of the visible slabs/walls in active view of linked model , but its not that clean as i think wall/slab connection are just visual attachment , is there any possible way to fix this?

I don’t understand what you mean by “not clean as wall slab connection are just visual attachment”.

in revit when walls are joined to slabs the structural layers geometry is “unionized” but when i try to extract the geometry of the structural layers using dynamo(red result) the structural layers are not touching and "unionized like i nthe revit preview!

I don’t see you have extracted the structural layers in that image though. I see the wall’s geometric extents. If you just had the structural layers the red highlight would be inboard of the grey.

but the red extracted geometry is the structural layers of both the complex slabs and the walls visible in view and they are in their correct locatiion? its just the joinery of the walls+ slabs part i cannot seem to find a solution for

Are you saying there is ‘wall’ outside the limits of the red box? Sadly I don’t see it on my device (iPhone today) so it’s hard for me to help. Maybe Change the wall override to be something more contrasting? Unioning the surfaces would be the next step though, otherwise you’ll have a line at every wall/floor intersection. You’ll also have to figure out how to account for the base of walls stopping at the finish floor not the structural floor (if I am reading that right).

no im talking about the joinery intersections of the structural geometry of walls with the slabs!

Patch the loops into surfaces. Union the surfaces. Extract the perimeter curves. That solves it for the upper 2 issues. For the lower one you’ll either need to address the modeling method and have the bottom of the wall be at the top of the slab, or adjust the bottom surface of the wall by shifting the vertices of the bottom edge of each wall by the thickness of the floor’s finish layers.

yeah it should be possible as Jacob mention…share a small master file, and the link file…i do it for walls layer, both for floors, roof, ceiling, without any parting…but sure not on linked havent tried so far, but dont see any reason why it couldnt work there…maybe i will be clever…hahaha

Okay heres my file , you can try on any of the Vues de détail Coupe 1-4 , ive also linked my dynamo file if you want to check my progress!

CDD Filtre pour béton.dyn (179.4 KB)

Cheers Amir, i just mean a really simple situation for that, a small master and a link, with the princip, as should be possible to share here direckly

ok one sec xD
