Hi Dynamo Community,

I am working on a coordination host project with multiple linked Revit models (5 linked files). I am trying to extract/filter elements (specifically `Walls / Murs`) from a linked model that are visible within my host file’s active detail section view.

When using standard Dynamo nodes like `All Elements of Category in View`, it returns an `Empty List` because standard collectors query the host document database directly and do not evaluate elements inside linked models or translate the view crop box into linked coordinate space.

The Python script which @Mike.Buttery posted can likely be pasted into a Python node and executed directly. Give it a shot and see if it works for you. 🙂

That’s the node and the script. Scroll down to line 27 in your Python editor and see what that line indicates.

Shifted the conversation over to your new topic as the previous one was already solved and you need to get more specific. Which version of Revit are you in?

revit 2025 , basically i have this section view in host project of multiple linked projects,i want the possibility to extract the linked element (wallas,slabs)that are visible in the host view so ican perform an geometry intersect with the section view outline surface patch so i can create a different 2d pattern , thats what i want exactly . or extract linked rooms of active view!(weather plan , or section!)

There are some packages to get `Elements` from `Links`.
I know _bimorph_ and _Crumple_ have some.

You’re creating a situation where you’ll be chasing your tail forever with updates to the [architecture/structure/etc.] models, while simultaneously taking a performance hit in the PDFs you make, the views you navigate, and the like. The better option here to use visibility graphics to control the display so you get what you’re after.

That said, there’s valid reasons to get linked objects from a given category in a view so I’m going to whip up a model, link it into another model, and see about a sample graph for you.

Ok thank you mr jacob! but i thought about the visibility solution but it wont work in my case since i want the same walls to have a specific pattern in plans , section and a different pattern in detail sections! i will wait for your solution! thank you so much!

Totally doable - look into view filters. Can even apply different filters to different links in sequence at different scales.

Since you’re in 2025, there isn’t a need for anything custom or Python related.

Built the below with the mindset of wanting to process all elements of the desired categories from all links in the active view.

hi sir are you reall sure that its doable in revit? because i dont need to apply a filter to the entire wall/ slab but to just a chosen layer of it ! for exemple create a filter for the structure[1] layer of walls/slabs in active view!! i couldnt do it in revit !

Try this variant if you are using a list as input.

```python
import clr
import sys
import System
#import net library
from System import Array
from System.Collections.Generic import List, IList, Dictionary, HashSet
#import Revit API
clr.AddReference('RevitAPI')
import Autodesk
from Autodesk.Revit.DB import *
import Autodesk.Revit.DB as DB
#import transactionManager and DocumentManager (RevitServices is specific to Dynamo)
clr.AddReference('RevitServices')
import RevitServices
from RevitServices.Persistence import DocumentManager
from RevitServices.Transactions import TransactionManager
doc : DB.Document = DocumentManager.Instance.CurrentDBDocument
uiapp = DocumentManager.Instance.CurrentUIApplication
uidoc = uiapp.ActiveUIDocument
#Preparing input from dynamo to revit
toList = lambda x : x if hasattr(x, " __iter__") and not isinstance(x, (str, System.String)) else [x]
lnkinstances = toList(UnwrapElement(IN[0]))
view = UnwrapElement(IN[1])
all_links_in_view_Ids = FilteredElementCollector(doc, view.Id).OfCategory(BuiltInCategory.OST_RvtLinks).ToElementIds()
all_link_walls = [
        FilteredElementCollector(doc, view.Id, li.Id).OfCategory(BuiltInCategory.OST_Walls).ToElements()
        for li in lnkinstances
        if li.Id in all_links_in_view_Ids
        ]
OUT = all_link_walls
```
